Interview with the author Nadia bruce rawlings

hello, here is the interview with an amazing author Nadia Bruce Rawlings. i have recently read her work ( Scars) and fallen in love with her writing. So, to know more about her, keepscrolling.

1.  Hello, ma'am, kindly Tell us about yourself.

:  so...I lived all over the world (Canada, Egypt,  Norway, US, England, Bahamas...), as my father worked in the oil industry.  He was a big drinker and abusive,  and I never wanted to be like him. Unfortunately,  I grew up to be an alcoholic and a drug addict. I had a great career in film distribution which I left after my mom died and I became addicted to Crack. Eventually I went to rehab for 6 months and went back to working in film. I was a single mom of a little girl for 10 years when I reunited with an old boyfriend who has 5 kids. We married and moved from LA to Nashville 10.5 years ago. I've 23 years sober now. I also have a hip replacement,  7 levels fused in my cervical spine and 7 levels fused in my lumbar spine! I work with women in AA to help them get and stay sober. I've had 2 books published by Punk Hostage Press,  Scars and Driving in the Rain,  both collections of short stories and poetry about my life.

2. Which is the book that helped you start your reading journey?

When I was about 5 years old, I read Harriet the Spy and fell in love with reading.  When I was a teen I was introduced to the beatnik authors and was inspired by Kerouac.  I also loved Hemingway's short stories,  I longed to write like him.

3. Who is your favourite author?

I think now my favorite author is Sandra Cisneros.  She paints pictures with her words, her imagery and emotion is amazing.  As mentioned I love Kerouac and Hemingway and also Cormac McCarthy is brilliant.

4. As a reader, how many stars will you give to your own book ?

That's a tough question! I think I would give Scars one more star than Driving in the Rain,  as to me it is more intense and emotional.

5. Who is your writing inspiration?

Again, I think Kerouac and Hemingway are both inspiring to me.

6. From your first book to till now how much you have grown as an author?

I think I've found my voice a little more strongly. I also want to convey hope, which I think comes across more in my second book,  Driving in the Rain.

7. At last, any message you want to share?

I want people to know there is hope for recovery from abuse of all kinds. You need to speak out for help, to surrender if you're an addict, to seek help and stick to it. Recovery provides joy and a whole new life.

Thank you.

until next time.
